Lok Sabha polls: Filing of nominations from today

With the election fast approaching, the process of filing nomination papers will commence on Tuesday.

The nominations for Kodagu-Mysuru Lok Sabha constituency will be filed at Mysuru.

The last date for filing of nominations is March 26 and the nominations will be scrutinised on March 27.

The last date for withdrawal of nominations is March 29. The polling for Kodagu-Mysuru Lok Sabha constituency will be held on April 18.

In a meeting at her office on Monday, Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer Annies Kanmani Joy sought details on polling booths, the model code of conduct, election expenditure, the helpline and cVigil app from the nodal officers.

With the commencement of filing of nominations, all political parties meetings and conventions will also commence. The nodal officials should issue permissions, keep an eye on check posts and the election expenditure, she said.

The deputy commissioner said, “All arrangements should be made to get the differently abled voters to the polling booth. Awareness should be created on exercising the franchise. The training for polling officials should be completed at the earliest.”

Superintendent of Police Dr Suman D Pennekar said, “The assistant returning officers should bring the issue of permission for political programmes to the notice of the police.”

Vehicle inspection

In the backdrop of the election, all the vehicles entering the district are being checked. The check posts are functioning round the clock.

Four police personnel and two home guards work in two shifts in addition to six executive magistrates and assistants.

Kite festival

To create awareness on the need for exercising one’s franchise, the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation Committee will organise a kite festival for schoolchildren at Raja Seat in Madikeri at 4 pm on March 19.
