Man sentenced to death for killing kids

A man has been found guilty of poisoning and killing his two children in a failed suicide pact and has been sentenced to death by District and Sessions Court in Kundapur on Saturday.

The convict is Shankaranarayana Hebbar, a resident of Ganganadu in Byndoor taluk. According to police, Shankaranarayana Hebbar had an illicit relationship with his maid.

He was dejected and decided to commit suicide after the maid married another person.

Realising that his family would find it difficult to carry on with life if ended his life, he laced the food with poison on October 16, 2016.

After consuming the food, his son Ashwin Kumar (16) and daughter Aishwarya Lakshmi (14) died while his wife Mahalakshmi, who was serious, survived. As Shankaranarayana had consumed less food, he had survived. Before ending life, he had written a 16-page death note on reasons behind the suicide pact.

Based on the death note, Baindoor Circle Inspector Raghava Padil conducted a probe and had filed a charge sheet in the court. The judge declared that it was as the rarest of rare case sentenced Hebbar to death.
