Meeting of alcoholic de-addicts

Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project (SKDRDP), Akhila Karnataka Janajagruthi Vedike and Karnataka State Temperance Board will organise a meeting of those who have achieved sobriety to mark 150th Gandhi Jayanti at 10.30 am at Town Hall, Mangaluru, on October 6.

SKDRDP Mangaluru taluk unit president Umarabba told media persons that SKDRDP, in association with the board, has conducted 1,265 de-addiction camps to bring about a positive change in the lives of 93,000 alcoholics.

Akhila Karnataka Janajagruthi Vedike had been organising de-addiction camps and 'Gandhi Smrithi' seminars towards building an alcohol-free society every year on October 2. Those who succeed in kicking their addiction to bottle are given 'Jagruthi Anna' and 'Jagruthi Mitra' awards, he said.

On October 6, a rally will be taken out from Ambedkar Circle to Town Hall prior to the meeting. The rally will be flagged-off by DCP (Crime and Traffic) Uma Prashanth and the meeting will be inaugurated by Manipal Deemed to be University Pro chancellor Dr H S Ballal. Mayor Bhaskar K will preside over the programme.

Janajagruthi Vedike president Sadashiva Shetty, Vice President Uday Alva and member Vasanth were present in the press meet.
