WORME Fest (World Of Rock Metal Electronica) is a multi-genre music platform, aimed at promoting up-and-coming independent musicians from around the subcontinent.

The preliminary round of the festival’s south-zone competition recently took place at Opus, where five enthusiastic bands battled it out with great passion and energy to prove their mettle.

While the competition was won by local alternative funk-rock band, ‘Clown with a Frown’, the other bands were also entertaining and musically impressive in the respective genres they played.

The shortlisted bands that were seen performing were Chennai-based metal act, ‘Trojan Horse’; Bangalore-based rock band, ‘The Scratch Cards’; ‘Perpetual Void’, a thrash death metal band from Hyderabad and another Bangalore-based experimental rock band, ‘Sparkplugs’.

Michael Khanna, who conceptualised the entire festival, was quite overwhelmed by the number of bands that were showcased from the south zone.

“The objective of this platform is to initiate a movement within the country, which is endorsed, supported and enjoyed by professional artistes, sponsors, music labels and music lovers. The response we have received from the Bangalore audience has been mind-boggling! The fans here have an unbelievable appetite for good, live music,” he says.

He adds that the festival intends to carve a place for itself in the hearts and minds of music lovers as a unique event, planned and executed at par with international music fests. And to a large extent, the production and sound experienced at Opus reflected just that!

“It was a really fun evening! I came here to support my friend, who is the guitarist of one of the bands. I ended up cheering him and seeing four other awesome bands that I’d never heard of till now,” says Rakesh, who attended. The highlight of the evening was a special performance by local fusion rock band, Lagori, who put up a short but fun set and managed to truly wow the frenzied audience.
