City-wide run to pick up plastic on Oct 2

Last Updated 27 September 2018, 17:26 IST

Imagine running while doing your bit to clean the city? The Plog Run, an event where one will be jogging while picking up plastic, will be held on October 2, at 50 different locations in the city.

Ramakrishna Ganesh, organiser of the Plog Run says that the idea germinated from a 10k run they did at Nandi Hills in the recent past.

“We have done a run a few months ago with a close circle of runners at the hills. We tied up with a few partners and collected almost 100 bags of plastic in just a few hours. We handed over the waste to Discovery Village who segregated and disposed it properly,” says Ramakrishna.

After seeing the waste there, he realised that such an attempt should be implemented in Bengaluru.

“We have associated with varied partners and have identified 50 locations in the city with ambassadors who have been evangelising the cause. Areas like Malleswaram, Sahakarnagar, Yeshwanthpur, Koramangala have been identified,” he details.

This run aims to bring to the highlight the need for healthy living while supporting a cause.

“When plogging, one will have to bend and squat. As a participant, one will be handed over a reusable plastic bag in which plastic bottles and covers can be collected. Most of these runs are happening around dry waste centres of the BBMP, so the waste will be processed accordingly.”

The registrations are open from 7.30 am to 8.30 am and the run will happen from 8 am to 9 am.
