JOIN USYoung artistes from Mumbai and Bangalore mesmerised the audience with their talent and dedication towards Indian classical music at the 26th Devnandan Ubhayaker Yuva Sangeet Utsav 2012, organised by Smriti Nandan, at Khincha Auditorium, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan recently.
The event is held to encourage young people showcase their talents. The festival saw a packed hall.
Chirag Katti, a young sitar player from Mumbai, showcased his best to the audience on the second day of the fest, along with the young City-based tabla player Mihir Kallianpur.
The event was attended not only by senior citizens but also by youngsters who had a keen interest in music. The show opened with an alaap, jod and jhala in raag Charukeshi.
It had a combination of beautiful notes, mirs and some intricately strummed harkat. It was good to see a young musician adding his bit to the recital. He went on to perform a couple of gats in the same composition (in the same raag). This was followed by a vilambhit in teen taal and a dhrut in the same taal.
The recital of the dhrut was commendable as he maintained the beat as well as the essence of the raag while matching up to the
gati of the taal.
The next piece was a recital of raag Mishra Khamaaj on teen taal.
However, what stole the show was his melodious ending with a couple of bhajans like Aayo Kahan Se Ghansham, Payo Ji Maine Raam Lakhan Dhan Payo and Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram.
One could not miss the energy and dynamism Mihir Kallianpur showed on stage , whether it was a dhrut or a vilambhit.
He personalised it with his addition of tukdas here and there. The crisp thekas, which complemented generously with tukdas, talked oodles about his potential. His ability to innovate on the spot was appreciated by the audience, who couldn’t stop applauding the artistes.
“I am honoured to perform in Bangalore. This is the second time that I am performing here and I hope the audience liked me. I really enjoy performing in the City and I thank the organisers for giving me such a wonderful opportunity and scope to showcase my talent,” said Chirag.
A first-year student of MES College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Mihir said that the Devnandan Ubhayaker Yuva Sangeet Utsav was a great platform for youngsters and he had a wonderful experience.
The two-day show saw a host of young artistes performing on a single platform.
On the first day, Gaayatri Kaundinya gave a vocal performance accompanied by Vyasamurti Katti on the harmonium and Anant Hegde on the tabla, Nabhodeep Chakraborty also gave a vocal recital, accompanied by Ravindra Katoti on the harmonium, and Nisar Ahmed on the tabla.
The schedule was packed on the second day as Ritisha Padmanabh gave a vocal recital accompanied by Ravindra Katoti on the harmonium as well as Anant Hegde on the tabla. Apart from Chirag Katti’s recital, there was Arnab Bhattacharya’s sarod recital accompanied by Mihir Kallianpur on the tabla. Bhuvanesh Komkali presented a vocal recital, accompanied by Vyasamurt Katti on the harmonium and Gurumurthy Vaidya on the tabla.
