JOIN USHonouring the best in the music industry
To celebrate the rich legacy of Kannada film music and honour outstanding contributors, the Big Kannada Music Awards 2010 was held in the City recently.The awards were presented by Bharathi Cement and 92.7 Big FM, in association with Prajavani.The initiative, which will be an annual feature henceforth, provides a chance for music lovers to choose the winners through voting.
People can cast their votes through multiple voting systems like SMS, ballet boxes installed at various shopping malls, multiplexes and also through the website of Big FM.
The voting process for love songs, ‘feeling’ songs, vichitra songs and tapanguchi songs have already begun.
These nominations, which are under the category of Chamak Awards, will be selected by the public. A few lucky voters will get the opportunity to give away prizes to the winners on stage during the grand finale of the award ceremony, which will be held on August 22.
There are other categories like ‘Jury Award’, ‘Critics Award’ and ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’.
The unveiling ceremony was attended by musicians and singers from the industry like K Kalyan, Nandita, Shamita Malnad, Chetan, Joshua Shridhar, Anuradha Bhat, and Akanksha Badami.
Director Prashanth Raj and actor Tarun from Gana Bajaana team were also present and cast their votes for the singers.Ram Prasad from Ashwini Audio, Mohan and Shyam Chabbria from Anand Audio too graced the occasion to extend their support to the initiative taken to promote Kannada music.
K Kalyan, popular lyricist and music director and one of the jury members, was elated by the concept and said he will do his best as a jury member. “Enjoying a song is far easier than judging its quality. Not from the point of judge but from the point of common man, I will try to do justice to choose the best performance. No matter who wins the prize,
it will finally belong to the industry,” he said.
Leading Kannada playback singer Nandita, who has a nomination for her Neenendare Nanage Ishta Kano, a song from Raam, said all the members of the music fraternity are delighted by this initiative.
“We have lots of awards in the film industry but most of them concentrate on other film-making aspects and sidelines musicians. With this concept, we can expect much encouragement for our work and we will be inspired to work better,” she said.
