Authentic Chinese, not heavy on wallet

Last Updated 18 May 2018, 15:19 IST

If you are in the mood for some decent Chinese grub without burning a hole in your pocket, head to Red Lantern on Cunningham Road.

Located in the hub of fancy restaurants in the city, the place is not too big but the cozy ambience, with orange lights on the ceiling, will definitely brighten up anybody’s mood. It makes for the perfect hangout place with friends.

From personal experience, we can say that the Manchow soup they serve there is definitely one of the best in Bengaluru. So you know what to order from the soups.

The perfectly cooked tomatoes, mushrooms and onions are a treat to your taste buds. With a layer of crunchy noodles on the soup, it is sprinkled with coriander leaves which enhance the flavor.

There are also other options like ‘Hot and Sour’, ‘Lung Fung’, ‘Clear Soup’, ‘Sea Food Soup’ and more.

Coming to the appetizers, the vegetarian section has a plethora of options like ‘Veg Spring Roll’, ‘Chilli Garlic Potato’, ‘Mushroom Pepper Salt’ and more.
The deep fried ‘Crispy Pecking Babycorn’ has a unique combination of spices and just the right dash of masala which makes it a must try.

The non-vegetarian section has more variety and meat lovers can choose their pick from options like ‘Taipei Chicken’, ‘Lemon Basil Chicken’, ‘Drums Of Heaven’, ‘Crispy Thread Chicken’, ‘Crispy Peking Lamb’ and more.

The main course usually takes 20-25 minutes to be served, so it is recommended to order it along with your starters. ‘Chilli Garlic Rice’ is an interesting dish; the flavour of garlic gives it a simple feel but somehow you keep going back for more.

Thai curries, Thai rice preparations as well as different varieties of fried rice, types of noodles and chowmein are the other sections of the extensive menu. The ‘Chicken Hunan Rice’ deserves a special mention.

If you love your spices as much as we do, you should definitely leave some space for the authentic ‘Dragon Choupsuey’. It is highly recommended for the gravy’s strong spicy taste, which is made up of chilies, capsicum, onions and carrots cut in different shapes.

If the variety confuses you, ask the waiters for suggestions. They will suggest you the best pick. The portions are generous so be careful while ordering. It is a good thing they don’t have desserts so you don’t have to keep space for that.

‘Red Lantern’ is located on Cunningham Crossroad, Kaverappa Layout, Vasanth Nagar. For details, call 8022202020.
