Bethany High Choir invited to perform in Singapore fete

The Bethany High Choir

Bethany High Choir chosen to perform at the prestigious Singapore International Choral Festival 2018. The Bethany High School Choir is the only school from Bengaluru and one of the two schools to represent India at the festival

The Bethany High Choir, the choir group from Bethany High, is participating at the fifth Singapore International Choral Festival. The festival began on July 19 and will go on till July 23. Bethany High is the only school from Bangalore and one of the two schools to represent India at this festival. The ‘Singapore International Choral Festival’ is an event that has grown over the last five years to be one of the most prestigious Choral festivals in Asia.

The Bethany High Choir is competing in the Under-19 segment and is competing with teams from China, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Macau, Canada, Poland, Indonesia and Philippines. The choir was selected through a stringent process. At the festival, the Bethany high Choir will be performing to their very own arrangement. The song Sadvartha (a fusion with Carnatic and Bharatanatyam elements) is composed by Wesley P Kuruvilla, the well-known Adagio in G Minor by Remo Giazotto with the twist of a Western Flute and lastly the best-selling single by Stevie Wonder titled Superstition.

The Bethany Choir balances traditional and contemporary interpretations of choral music. The choir adopts the ‘Show Choir’ format of presentation adding dance elements to their four-part arrangements. Known for their creative stints, the Bethany Choir adds Indian instruments, ‘Bharatanatyam’ dance idioms and Indian ragas from Carnatic and Hindustani music to their performance. At the festival, the choir will be represented by 30 voices. The choir has been the foundation of the school’s creative musicals that are widely acclaimed in the city with well-known Broadway like ‘Madagascar’, ‘Pippin’, ‘Shrek’, ‘Under the Sea’, ‘Yo Sista’, ‘Smike’ and Alladin.

The choristers will get to perform at some of the most cultural and historical venues in Singapore like the Yong Siew Tow Conservatory and Esplanade Concert Hall.
