There are a host of small eateries that dot the southern part of the city like Basavanagudi, N R Colony and V V Puram. Here, you can savour sumptuous delicacies that don’t cost a fortune. These places have also managed to retain their old charm, undisturbed by urbanisation.

South Kitchen, owned by Sanjay Prabhakar, is located in the heart of Basavanagudi. Started in 2014, South Kitchen has slowly, but steadily become popular with the localites.

Located beside the N R Colony bus stop, this serves as a one-stop place for a quick bite. The ambience is warm, welcoming and care is taken to ensure the cleanliness of the place.

The idli and vada are served with the semi-solid, seasoned chutney. And this makes for a perfect combination. Another highlight is the good quality of the food and its unique taste.

The other fast-moving dishes are ‘Khara Bath’, which is served with spicy chutney. They don’t use garlic or onion which is an advantage. Another must-try dish is Kesari Bath which is served with fried cashew nuts. There are also other regular South Indian breakfast platters like Upma, Dosa and rice-based items. The filter coffee is popular as well. The regulars vouch for the taste and hygiene of the place. Achala, a student says, “I love the combination of idli, vada and jamoon. The good breakfast here literally sets the tone for the day.” Suresh, the cashier says, “There is never a dull day. Mornings are the busiest time for us. People from all over the city come here.”

The eatery is located near Katte Balaga, 1st Main Road, Subbarama Chetty Road, N R Colony, Basavanagudi. It is open from 7 am to 12 noon and 3 pm to 9.30 pm. For details call, 9880980009.
