I cook and drive a lot: Chandan Kumar

I’ve never really had a weekend to myself after I chose to pursue a career in the film industry. I worked with General Motors for a while before I realised that acting was my true calling. I quit a cushy job and gave into my love for films.

I began my career in television and moved onto the big screen much later. My weekends were a lot more relaxed when I was working in the television industry.
I am still in touch with my friends from my engineering college and we hang out together on most weekends. There are specific places in the city where we hang out and we go there almost every other weekend. I am particular about the company that I keep and the circle that I move around with.

Another pastime on weekends is cooking which I began only after I moved to Bengaluru from Mysuru a while ago. I am particular about my diet and eat everything in moderation without going overboard. I started making my own variations of chicken and fish-based dishes, just to make sure that I don’t mess with my diet. I find innovative ways of cooking chicken, fish and other items that I am fond of. I also try to make my breakfast as wholesome as possible. I mix dry fruits like nuts and raisins and muskmelon with oats and beat it into a milkshake. I spend a lot of time finding innovative ways of cooking and my go-to place for quick references is YouTube. I have graduated, I can say with some pride, from making simple dishes to more complicated ones.

I used to play cricket when I was in school and later in college as well. I lost touch with it in between and resumed my love for cricket after I started playing for Celebrity Cricket League (CCL) under Sudeep’s captaincy. Sudeep sir and I have also become close over time. We bond over cinema and sport.

I enjoy long drives, so some weekends I drive to Mysuru to spend time with my family. There have been weekends when I have driven to locations in and around Bengaluru.

Weekends are also precious in some ways because it gives me enough room to plan the road ahead. I want to do more than just acting, so chalking out a workable route tops my list of weekend plans.

A few of my favourite things:

Bikes

Cooking

Long drives
