Five one-day getaways

One day trips can be truly refreshing. Metrolife puts together a few places that you can go on a one-day trip.

Mekedatu
This is situated 110km from the city and is located along Kaveri in Kanakapura Taluk in Ramanagara District. Another attraction is Sangama where the rivers Arkavati and Kaveri meet. One can fish at the Galibore Fishing Camp or get a glimpse of the scenic Shivanasamudra Falls which also boasts of a hydro-electric power station.

Skandagiri
Skandagiri, better known as Kalavara Durga, is a mountain fortress located 62 km from Bengaluru. Many bikers head here for a weekend trip. There are two caves that cut through the hills. Both lead to a temple at the top. Night camping, trekking, bird watching and nature walks are some of the things that one can do in this place. Don’t miss the breathtaking sunrise that is clearly visible from the hilltop. Winters are the best season to visit this place.

Anthargange
Popular for its caves, this place is located 68 km from Bengaluru in Kolar district. The Dakshina Kashi Kshetra temple is usually the starting point for any trekker. One will have to park the vehicle near the temple and follow the trail till the top. Make sure have a guide when you trek through these caves. The best season to visit this place is between October and March.

Ramanagara
This is where Bollywood movie ‘Sholay’ was shot. Located approximately 50 km towards South West of Bengaluru, Ramanagara is an ideal spot for rock climbing and bird watching. For those who love music and theatre, Janapada Loka, an open-air theatre for folk music and plays, promises to both enlighten and entertain. The House Museum and art
gallery are some of the other attractions here. Another must-visit place is the Kanva Reservoir, located halfway between Ramanagara and Channapatna. This is also a
perfect camping spot for fishing and bird watching.

Savandurga
Located 52 km from Bengaluru, this is the largest monolith in India and a hotspot for trekkers. People throng the Veerabhadreshwara Swamy Temple and Narasimha Swamy temple. Both landmarks and hold a significant place in the history of Karnataka. The paths leading to these temples are adventurous and make for a good trekking experience. The ideal time to visit this place would be in summer.
