It’s a cut above the rest

If you are looking for a romantic getaway in the middle of the city’s hustle and bustle, Uppercut at Sheraton Grand Bengaluru Whitefield Hotel and Convention Center is the place to go.

Located in the heart of Bengaluru’s IT corridor, the outdoor restaurant is dwarfed on all sides by glass and steel buildings. But contrary to how it sounds, the overall effect is pretty and fairytale-ish. As you sit in one of the comfortable cane chairs and soft music floats from the speakers above, lights glimmer and glitter from the many windows of the surrounding structures, giving the entire ambience a surreal feel.

The bespoke butchery and grill establishment specialises in premium steaks, fresh seafood, free range poultry and game meat, under the able expertise of Chef Sumit Rawat, Sous Chef Sheraton Grand. So the grilling and barbecuing is done to perfection but the spice levels may come across as slightly muted for someone used to typical Indian fare.

Start your meal with the ‘Potato Parmesan Soup’ with burned garlic and truffle oil. The soup is a thick creamy bowl of goodness but it doesn’t leave you feeling stuffed; the light flavours are refreshing. Try it with their breads, the combination works wonders.

If you are not a soup person, opt for the ‘Tomato Burrata Salad’ — it has the perfect burrata with a dash of olive oil. The cheese is again rich and heavy but the tomatoes (not very crisp) balance out the taste.

The ‘Ethnic Lamb Chop’ is a customer favourite and one bite of it is enough to tell you why — the succulent lamb pieces can be a little heavy on your tummy but it is worth it. Another good option to try is the ‘Ethnic Soya Chap’.

The ‘Grilled Portabello Mushroom’ is a personal favourite — the soft and juicy mushroom is something you can’t get enough of. The ‘Grilled Tiger Prawn’ is another must try for meat-lovers; a perfect combination of textures and flavours.

The ‘Deep Fried Squid’ was a little bit of a damp squib — it was too chewy and salt was a little less. The dessert made up for this though. The ‘Molten Chocolate Cake’ was a sweetlover’s paradise; we highly recommend it.

There is a limited but interesting enough wine list; though these are slightly expensive compared to the other drinks. The signature cocktails are also quite good. Full marks to the extremely courteous and helpful staff.

Uppercut is located at Sheraton Grand Bengaluru Whitefield Hotel and Convention Centre, Prestige Shantiniketan, Whitefield.
