Supriya wants to do negative roles

Supriya Pilgaonkar will soon be seen in ‘Batti Gul Meter Chalu’, a Hindi film.

She rose to fame with the 90’s sitcom ‘Tu Tu Main Main’. Actor Supriya Pilgaonkar soon became a household name as her acting prowess and hard work got her some popular serials like ‘Sasural Genda Phool’, ‘Radhaa Ki Betiyaan’ and ‘Kuch Rang Pyar Ke Aise Bhi’.

Supriya has also carved a name for herself in the Hindi and Marathi movie industries. She will now be seen in ALT Balaji’s web series ‘Home’ directed by Habib Faisal which will go live on August 29.

In a chat with Surupasree Sarmmah, Supriya talks about her upcoming web series, her experience of working with Annu Kapoor and her upcoming movie.

What interested you to be a part of ALT Balaji’s ‘Home’?

I was new to this medium and was curious to know how things work here. The fact that the entire shoot gets over within two to three months was exciting. Moreover, Habib Faisal is a very well-known director. He portrays the different nuances of his films beautifully. And on top of it, Ekta Kapoor has a penchant for different subjects and she was very interested in it. So, it was a concoction of many things that interested me to be a part of it.

The trailer looks intriguing and emotional...

The word ‘Home’ itself is very emotional. As the saying goes, ‘home is where the heart is’, the heart is all about emotions. There was an array of emotions that
we had to portray. But the show is not overly emotional and is not a melodrama at all, Habib Faisal has made sure of it. It was a great experience working on this project.

How was it working with Annu Kapoor, one of the finest actors?

This is the first time I am working with him and I was observing him a lot. I really admire the fact that, even after being such a senior artiste, he doesn’t take his work for granted. As far as my chemistry with him onscreen is concerned, it was great. Both of us are very spontaneous actors. Hope it shows in the serial too.

Your character Ishwari Dixit and the serial ‘Kuch Rang Ke...’ was a bit hit in every household. Tell us about your experience portraying your character.

It was an amazing experience. The storyline was very universal and something that everybody could relate to. Working with the entire cast of the serial was refreshing. In fact, I share a very special bond with my on-screen son Dev.

Any specific genre that you would like to essay?

As an actor, I have worked in an array of genres till now but never played a negative role. So, I would like to do that too.

You have been in the industry for a long time now. What are the changes you see in the industry today?

Technically, the industry has changed a lot. The work culture too has changed a lot. Earlier, there was no concept of daily soaps. The kind of patience that was there earlier, can’t be seen today. Nobody has that kind of time. Having said that, there are both negative and positive changes that the industry has seen over the years.

You were last seen in the film ‘Hichki’. Any future films in your basket?

I am a part of the upcoming movie ‘Batti Gul Meter Chalu’. It is releasing on September 21.
