Name from Kanagal film, but new story

A Kannada movie based on the upbringing of young adults ‘Edakallu Guddada Mele’ released this Friday.

While the title, which is a namesake of a 1973 film, triggers curiosity, actor-turned-director Vivin Surya clears the air.

He says, “The film has nothing to do with Puttanna Kanagal’s movie. The two movies are entirely different. I have named the film with the same title as it holds a close connect to the script.”

With a story based on 15-year-old Nandini, whose parents are busy with their lives, the film tries to spread the message that if parents do their duties, then things will be alright with their young wards.

“The story was relevant 20 years back, is relevant today and will remain so many decades later. The movie has very strong content,” says Vivin.

This is Vivin’s directorial debut. He says that he faced many challenges while helming the family drama.

“While shooting at Chikkamagaluru, it was raining cats and dogs. We had to carry the equipment around for the shoot and make sure it was not damaged,” he says.

‘Edakallu...’ was shot in Bengaluru, Mysuru, Chikkamagaluru and Udupi. The movie’s cast includes Bharathi Vishnuvardhan, Edakallu Guddada Mele Chandrashekar, Srinath and Sumithra. “I am sure the movie will touch many hearts,” Vivin sums up.
