Traditional Indian stories with dance

Last Updated 23 May 2019, 17:30 IST

Dance production ‘Tales from the Bull and the Tiger’ by renowned dancer and choreographer Dr Ananda Shankar Jayant, will be presented on May 25, 6.30 pm, at Chowdiah
Memorial Hall.

The musical soundscape by Sathiraju Venumadhav, Jathis by IV Renukaprasad, costume design by Ganesh Nallari, lights by Gyandev Singh, digital design by Gunjan Ashtaputre and visual design by Pratima Sagar will be a part production on its own.

It will be performed by a vibrant ensemble cast of dancers, including Bengaluru dancer Mithun Shyam as a guest artiste with Ananda.

Explaining the concept of the production, Ananda tells Metrolife that it’s a classical dance work with essentially bharatanatyam and elements of kuchipudi.

“It’s an 85-minute production where the bull and the tiger tell us stories from the past, stories that we all know. It’s said in an interesting and fun way but keeping the traditional format completely intact,” she explains.

The production team of 20 dancers are hoping to entertain the audience on Saturday.

Ananda adds, “I’ve been told that the Bengaluru audience is warm and love to see traditional work. I am hoping that it will be received well as it is a large production.”

The dance is being presented by Shankarananda Kalakshetra, a premier institution for classical dance in Hyderabad. It has produced and presented 26 acclaimed dance productions.
