It isn’t very often that one ears of an IT professional quitting his work to pursue his passion. But these bunch of IT people are not only full-time professionals but also strive hard to pursue their passion for music on the sidelines.

‘Buffer Zone’ is a bunch of techies, each working in a different domain, with different responsibilities.

In spite of having to balance work and personal life, this group still pulls all strings and squeeze in time to make mind-blowing music. They started as a small time corporate band for a small gig in office.

Today, the band has grown beyond one’s imagination. Nishant, one of the band members, was the brain behind the search for the right musicians and was instrumental in bringing the band together.

The band falls under the genre of heavy metal, progressive metal, hard rock and classic rock.

The band consists of Allan on bass and vocals, Robin on drums, Gnanaraj on rhythm guitar, Nishant on vocals and rhythm guitar and Tirthankar on lead guitar.

They come from different parts of India and have their own influences as a result they sound unique and interesting. Robin confesses that their jamming sessions are always fun.

Discussions about office and heart-thumping music is what makes these sessions interesting.

“Crazy ideas, a large spectrum of musical influences and a love for music have given rise to a completely different sound that the City has never heard before and we call it ‘Buffer Rock’. We are ‘Ozzy Osbourne’ meets ‘Iron Maiden’. The varied influence and deep experience of all the band members add individual nuances to the songs that we create,” says Tirthankar.

Each member of the band brings in-depth experience in varied genres including heavy metal, classic rock, progressive metal and even Indian classical music. “I always prefer a sound that doesn’t rely on too many effects and can be performed live as it is. The genre should have raw energy, a connection with the audience and a proven track record. Though we experiment with a sound very often, we all share similar wavelengths and it makes our job very easier as a band to go out and play what we feel is close to our heart,” adds Nishant.

Gnanaraj feels that the music scene in the City is vibrant and thriving. “The City has room for all genres of music. There is an audience which is open to new ideas and organisers are willing to give an opportunity to a buddingband. Therefore, we can see a lot of bands emerging and being a part of a musically inclined city feels amazing,” he says.

It is very challenging for them to balance work and music but these youngsters are relentlessly pursuing their passion.

“Being full time IT professionals, it is very difficult to strike a balance between everything. But we still manage to squeeze in time for jams and our music stands testimony to that. But our families and colleagues have been very supportive. We are extremely happy to play music alongside our full-time job,” says Allan.

The band’s future plan is to release albums, make original music and inspire other budding musicians.
