He has got a lot of people to dance to his tunes and literally at that. And his voice has the power to heal many a broken soul. Two-time national award winner Padmashri Hariharan performed to a packed house, in the City, recently.

Metrolife caught up with the popular singer and got him talking about a host of issues.
Hariharan couldn’t contain his joy when he said,“I always feel nice to perform in Bangalore. It’s a lively City.”

He started his magnificent performance with the popular Kannada song Savi Savi Nenapu which got the crowd on its feet. Along with this song, he hummed the tune to Tu hi re from ‘Bombay’, followed by Chappa chappa charkha chale from Maachis, Roja, Chande re chanda re from Sapney and he also quickly switched to Tamil version of the same song.

Hariharan also rendered songs from ‘Colonial Cousins’ and concluded the performance with Bharat humko jaan se pyara hai from Roja. He took his audience on a delightful trip and an unforgettable experience.

He sang songs from all the genre from colonial, ghazals, to film songs. The evening also saw the Bangalore-based band ‘Aurko’ perform alongside Hariharan. They set the stage on
fire with their power-packed performance and soulful rendition.

Hariharan has a message for today’s young singers, he said, “Listen to music, it’s the healer of today. It calms you down and gives you energy”. Hariharan and Ustad Zakir Hussain come together, once again, to recreate the magic in ‘Hazir 2’.

The two legend reunite after 20 years. “I just finished a big project called ‘Hazir 2’ with Zakir Hussain and we are hoping to perform in Bangalore very soon,” added Hariharan. Hariharan and Zakir Hussain have taken ‘Hazir 2’ to different places like Kolkata, Mumbai and other parts of the country.

‘Hazir’, a complete Gazal album was made in 1996. They represent different musical styles and are very individualistic in terms of their creative approach. Hariharan keeps pushing the boundaries by trying new things and loves connecting with people on social networking sites.
