The time difference between the venues of World Cup matches. India seems to have taken a toll on the cricket lovers of the city. While talking to Metrolife, an overwhelming number of people complained how the timings of the matches have taken the fun out of the 2015 cricket World Cup being held in Australia and New Zealand.

“Some of the matches that our team is scheduled to play are on weekends but they are too early and I wake up quite late. As a result, I ended up missing out most part of the India-Pakistan game,” said Amrit Kumar, an HR professional. The matches, some of which start as early as 6.30 am, also serve as a great social gathering for many professionals who would enjoy the game after their work hours.

Priyankshi, has been an avid cricket follower and is employed in a public relations firm in south Delhi. “We hang out in local clubs to watch games. Mostly it is football but it’s cricket which I have always been fond of. During IPL season, I hardly miss out on a match and was hoping to catch some action in the World Cup but that is not happening this year,” she said.

There are, of course, cricket fans who take their game too seriously. For them, matches of the Indian team serve as an accompaniment; the main course still is the game, and for these people, most of the action of this year’s World Cup has been missed.

“I love the game and watch every match with avid interest. Of course, I cheer the Indian team but that doesn’t mean we should not watch and appreciate other teams.  Even though the Indian team’s matches are scheduled best to fit the convenience of the Indian masses, I feel bad that I won’t be able to watch other important moments of the tournament. Some of my favourite teams are South Africa, Australia and West Indies and I have not yet seen a complete match of theirs,” said Raghav another city-based professional.
