After 33 years, ‘Auto Raja’ is making a comeback to the silver screen. Director Udaya Prakash, who has directed movies like Yogi and Kalla Malla Sulla, says that his version of ‘Auto Raja’ is completely different from the Shankar Nag-starrer. Slated for a June release, the director along with his team are heading to all parts of the State to promote the film.

“This is a movie on which I have been working for a very long time. Since the title already comes with its own reputation, I didn’t want to disappoint the fans,” says Udaya.

Udaya, who describes the film as an innocent love story, says that there is no denying the comparison with the Shankar Nag starrer. “While this is not a remake, we have ensured that there is a surprise treat for Shankar Nag fans. I feel even when we were working on this film, we could feel the presence of the late actor all around us,” he adds.

The movie stars Ganesh, Bhama and Deepika Kammaiah in the lead. Earlier, it was reported that Ajay Rao would play the lead, Udaya states that no one could fit the role better than Ganesh. “Ganesh has completed close to 20 movies and has his own style and image. But in this movie, we have tried to showcase him differently,” he says. “Ganesh plays the role of an auto driver for the first time. His character is that of an innocent man who dreams of making it big. He soon meets a girl, who supports him in achieving success.” Working with Bhama, the director says, was a pleasant experience. “This is her second Kannada film and she is a very talented actress who moulds herself into the character,” he adds.

Having completed the movie, Udaya says that the difficult part comes now. “I have made the movie with my heart and soul and I hope people will see that and enjoy it. I am nervous but at the same time, I am anxious as how people will react to it,” he adds.
