Minister sets deadline to clear files

Tourism and District In-charge Minister Sa Ra Mahesh directed the officials concerned to clear the pending files on social security schemes within a month.

Convening a district-level officials’ meet at the DC’s office in Madikeri on Friday, he said that the officials should stop giving lame excuses and should respond to the woes of the beneficiaries, failing which, disciplinary action such as suspension would be initiated against the erring officials.

“The deputy commissioner cannot relieve the transferred officials without bringing it to the notice of the district in-charge minister. No officials should leave district headquarters. Only those officials who are residing outside the district may go to their respective places during weekends. However, they should report to duty for the rest of the days without fail”.

After discussing the feasibility of a silk market in the district with officials, Mahesh said that he will carry out an inspection of the site earmarked for the silk market at Koodige, towards initiating necessary steps.

The district in-charge minister also issued instructions to clear the pending applications by farmers towards rain-related compensation soon.

“What is the reason for keeping the files pending for so long, even after the report on rain-related losses has arrived?” he asked.

MLA M P Appacchu Ranjan complained that the farmers have been facing inconvenience as the record of rights is not being distributed in the taluk offices.

He also told the tahsildar to open additional counters at the Taluk Panchayat from Monday for providing RTCs.

MLA K G Bopaiah ridiculed the move by the former tahsildar of Virajpet who wrote a report declaring a living person as dead.

Minister Sa Ra Mahesh said that the revenue inspectors and village accountants should report from the spot. Every birth and death should be recorded in order to maintain accuracy.

MLC Sunil Subramani, Zilla Panchayat President B A Harish, CMC President Kaveramma Somanna and Zilla Panchayat Vice President Lokeshwari Gopal were present among others.
