2 men linked to Mumbai attacks held in Pakistan

The identity of the two persons has, however, not been revealed. Both of them were in Pakistan on November 26, 2008, the day terrorists carried out their attacks in Mumbai. One of them, it is learnt, has played a key role in the attacks. It wasn’t, however, clear if this person is the same as “person A” as mentioned in an initial report of the American Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

US investigators, it is said, are likely to be in a position to disclose the identity of the key Pakistani national nabbed within a week’s time.

This latest development in the ongoing US investigation is learnt to have figured during the talks between visiting American Central Intelligence Agency chief Leon Panetta and National Security Advisor M K Narayanan in Delhi on Saturday. Their discussions focused on the larger issue of bilateral cooperation in the campaign against global terrorism, particularly in the South Asian region.

Panetta, who was in Afghanistan and Pakistan before his visit to New Delhi, is understood to have conveyed that the US would provide some latest equipment to India which, among others, would help track the location of mobile phones. Terrorists have effectively used mobile connectivity in the Mumbai attacks.
