27 killed as rain fury continues in UP

Uttar Pradesh, especially the western region, continued to face the rain fury for the second day throwing life out of gear even as 27 people were killed in incidents of house collapse in different parts of the state in the past 24-hours.

Heavy rains continued to lash Agra, Mainpuri, Mathura, Gautam Buddh Nagar, Kasganj, Kanpur, Allahabad, Kannauj, Pratapgarh and some other districts, according to the reports on Friday.

Reports said that incidents of house collapse poured in from different parts of the state. At least 27 people, including women and children, were killed in such incidents.

Heavy rains also disrupted rail and air services. Trains were reported running several hours behind schedule as railway tracks were submerged in water at several places.

The UP government said that relief and rescue operations were being carried out in the affected districts. The state government also directed the district magistrates to provide financial assistance to the next of the kin of those killed in rain-related incidents.
