3 minors die of asphyxiation after falling into grain bin

Three siblings suffocated to death after falling into a grain bin while playing at their village in the district, an official said.

Nisha (10), Sapna (7) and Kartik (5) died of suffocation after falling into a wooden grain bin in Khumti village of Dharchula subdivision on Saturday, Dharchula Sub-Divisional Magistrate R K Pandey said, adding their parents were not at home when the incident occurred.

The children's grandfather said, "It appears that they fell into the grain bin while playing near it and got trapped there. When we started looking for them for the evening meal, we could not find them."

"We called the villagers for help and one of them spotted the children inside the bin. By the time they were pulled out of it, they were dead," he said.

The bodies of the children were handed over to the family after post-mortem, Pandey said.
