AAP accuses Rohatgi of links with Vodafone

Last Updated 27 November 2014, 19:17 IST

Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi should have recused himself from advising the Income Tax department not to file an appeal against the Bombay High Court judgement in the Vodafone case, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has said.

In a statement, the party said Rohatgi appeared previously for the company as a private lawyer and therefore had a conflict of interest in the case.

The high court ruled that telecom company Vodafone was not liable to pay Rs 3,200 crore tax.

It said Rohatgi should have recused himself from giving opinion in favour of Vodafone as a top government lawyer since he appeared for the telco in May 24, 2012 in the Supreme Court as a private lawyer.
