AAP to cut Cong votes in Delhi, Mumbai: Snap poll

The Aam Aadmi Party is likely to make a dent into the Congress votes in Delhi and Mumbai in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections and also win Ghaziabad currently represented by BJP President Rajnath Singh, according to a snap poll conducted by ABP News-Nielsen.

The snap poll conducted in Delhi-NCR and Mumbai-Thane regions, showed Narendra Modi as the most preferred prime ministerial candidate with 42 per cent votes, followed by Arvind Kejriwal (31%). Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi ranks third with only 16 per cent respondents preferring him to be the prime minister.

The poll showed that the AAP was expected to sweep Delhi by winning six of the seven Lok Sabha seats and also make its debut in Mumbai.

The one-year-old party is expected to perform well in areas adjoining Delhi by winning seats in Uttar Pradesh. The snap poll showed AAP winning the Ghaziabad parliamentary constituency currently represented by BJP president Rajnath Singh. In Mumbai and Thane, Congress-NCP combine was likely to get three seats in April-May general elections as compared with eight seats in 2009. BJP-Shiv Sena alliance is predicted to get six seats as against the single seat in 2009.

Interestingly, the poll showed that Kejriwal’s appeal was restricted to Delhi as 42 per cent of those polled in the capital wanted him to be the prime minister. In Mumbai, only 18 per cent of those polled preferred the AAP founder to be the prime minister.

The poll showed BJP winning two seats  abutting Delhi with the Congress losing around 12 per cent vote share.
