Amaravati should have mixed economic activity: Naidu

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has said that capital city Amaravati should have mixed economic activity with tourism, IT parks and employment opportunities to provide value addition to the city.

He asked officials to create an ecosystem and prepare a draft policy to attract private participation in capital development.

Addressing a review meeting of the Capital Region Development Authority at the secretariat in Amaravati, the chief minister said private partnership should be encouraged in affordable housing, commercial complexes, business and IT parks, tourism and improving infrastructure.

The officials informed the chief minister about the land lease system, joint venture, joint development and private and public partnership project options.

They said they are formulating the private partnership policy with the offers provided by noted private partners, including DLF, Sobha, Prestige, Myhome, Shapoonji Palloji, Aparna, Radian, S urban, GVK, RMZ and NSL.

Naidu asked the officials to prepare the policy to make Amaravati a hub of mixed economic activity.

He said the projects should be technically sound and meet international standards. He said students should be involved in the structural designs of Amaravati and their innovative ideas should be invited. The chief minister was informed that the Mahindra group came forward to develop an industrial park in Amaravati.

They also had a discussion with the chief minister on pooling funds to a tune of Rs 26,000 crore for taking up several projects in Amaravati and mooted the floating of bonds.

When the officials suggested the uprooting of some trees for laying high-tension lines, Naidu advised them to transplant the trees instead of cutting them.

The officials informed the chief minister of proposals by Chinmaya Mission, DAV and Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan to set up schools in Amaravati.

Minister for Municipal Administration P Narayana, Chief Minister's Special Secretary Satish Chandra, Principal Secretary Sai Prasad, CRDA Principal Secretary Ajay Jain, Amaravati Development Corporation CMD Lakshmi Parthasaradhi and CRDA Commissioner Ch Sridhar were also present.
