Another medico in Tirupati commits suicide

A second-year MBBS student, T Geethika Reddy of Sri Venkateswara Medical College, committed suicide in her residence on Sunday, a week after Shilpa, a Post Graduate student from the same college committed suicide at her residence in Peeleru alleging sexual harassment on campus.

Geethika, a native of Kadapa district, hung herself at her Sivajyothi Nagar residence. Chittoor district collector Pradyumna rushed to the SV Ruia Government General hospital where Geethika’s body has been kept. Reasons for her death are not yet known.

College representatives said that Geethika returned home from college around 2 pm and went inside her room to study. Her mother tried to open the door in the evening but there was no reply. Her mother found her hanging from the ceiling after neighbours helped her to open the door. Police said that Geethika has left a suicide note and they are also verifying information available on her tab and mobile phone.

Shilpa Case

Meanwhile, a committee headed by Director of Medical Education K Babji conducted an enquiry with students about Shilpa‘s death and decided to transfer Dr Kireety and Dr Sasikumar of Paediatrics Department to Nellore.

The committee also decided to replace Principal Dr N Ramanaiah with Dr Ravi Prabhu and extend the suspension of Dr Ravi Kumar till the completion of the enquiry.

The committee members included Kurnool Government General Hospital Superintendent P Chandra Sekhar and HoD, Cardiology, Kurnool Medical College Dr T Jamuana. The police registered cases against the accused under IPC sections 354 D, 509, 506, 306, 34 and ST/SC Atrocities (Prevention) Act.
