Assaulted Russian woman gets Delhi Police security

A Russian woman, allegedly assaulted by the son of an Uttar Pradesh legislator last month at her house in south Delhi, has been given security by Delhi Police as she apprehends danger to her life, her lawyer said here Monday.

The security came after the Russian embassy took up the matter with the prime minister’s office (PMO), Gagan Chhabra, lawyer for Tatiana Butyaeva, told IANS.

Butyaeva, 24, an architect who earlier worked with a multi-national company based in Gurgaon, was allegedly assaulted by Vivek Ahlawat, son of Chandervir Singh, in Mehrauli Feb 29.

"After lodging the FIR, Tatiana was getting SMS and phone calls of dire consequences.
The matter was reported to the Russian embassy Sunday, the embassy took it to the PMO and ministry of external affairs. Two armed officers of Delhi Police have been deployed for her security," Chhabra said.

On her complaint, Delhi Police registered a first information report (FIR) against Vivek for house trespass for assault and under some provisions of the Arms Act.

However, Butyaeva has sought booking of the accused under stricter penal charges, provisions dealing with assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty and assault to commit theft or robbery.

She alleged that police were not taking strong action against the accused as he was from an influential political family.

Butyaeva, who came to India in January 2011 for an year-long internship in architecture, met Vivek in April 2011. After completing her internship, she went back to Russia.

She returned to Delhi Feb 29. According to her, Vivek was aware of her arrival and offered a lift from the airport but she refused it.

After that he came to her rented house in Mehrauli and assaulted her, and even took away her passport, credit cards and mobile phone.

However, her passport, credit cards and mobile phone were left outside her house and found by Butyaeva Monday morning.

"We have informed the Delhi Police of this," said Chhabra.
