Attacks on CPM, BJP leaders’ houses continue in Kerala

Last Updated 08 January 2019, 16:54 IST

In Kozhikode, houses of CPM's Koyilandi area committee member and ward councillor K Shiju and BJP local leader V K Mukundan came under attack during the early hours of Tuesday.

There were no casualties reported.

Unidentified persons on a two-wheeler initially threw country-made bombs at the house of Shiju by around 3.30 a.m.

Hardly two hours later, a similar attack took place at the house of Mukundan also.

Both houses suffered damages and the police have stepped up security in the locality following the recent tension.

Police suspect that it was sequel to the violence that set off across the state following entry of two women of menstruating age to Sabarimala temple on Jan 2.

Meanwhile, city police commissioners of Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode were transferred by the government.

Though the government did not cite any reason for the transfer, it was reportedly owing to lapses in containing the recent tension.

Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode city police commissioners P Prakash and Kaliraj Mahesh Kumar were replaced by DIGs S Surendra and Kori Sanjaykumar Gurudin respectively.
