Azad to meet Modi on DDCA issue

Last Updated 10 January 2016, 19:23 IST

Suspended BJP MP Kirti Azad on Sunday said he would meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi soon to discuss his allegations of financial mismanagement in the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA).

Azad was speaking with reporters at the Ernakulam Press Club in Kochi.

He reiterated his charges of financial irregularities during renovation of the Feroze Shah Kotla Ground in Delhi when the cricketing body was headed by Union Finance Minister and senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley. Azad maintained that Jaitley was repeatedly informed of the corruption but said he was not fighting a personal battle against the BJP leader. “Nobody can deter me from fighting corruption,” he said.

The former cricketer’s remarks come a day after the DDCA filed defamation suits in the Delhi High Court against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Azad over the allegations. Taking on efforts to silence him through legal action, Azad said he would counter such efforts with more evidence of corruption. He said he had already sought time from Prime Minister Modi to apprise him of his charges and their background.
