Bengal Guv’s remark on PM’s comment irks TMC

A day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi claimed that BJP workers cannot exercise their democratic rights in West Bengal, the state's Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi said that since Prime Minister has made the statement he must have information about it.

The Prime Minister made the comment in an interview to ANI.

"Since the Prime Minister has made the comment he must have information about it," said Tripathi.

Asked whether he has any information in this regard, Tripathi said "what I have is official records which is not to be disclosed."

The Governor's comment did not go down well with the Trinamool Congress (TMC).

"Governor's post is a constitutional one. He is not elected by citizens and he cannot refer to the Prime Minister's comment as he (Governor) is accountable to the president," TMC secretary general and Education Minister Partha Chatterjee said.
