Chhagan Bhujbal, a veteran NCP leader and former deputy chief minister of Maharashtra, received an anonymous death threat through a letter delivered at his farmhouse in Nashik.

The letter claimed that if Bhujbal continues to speaks against 'manusmriti', he would meet the same fate as rationalist Dr Narendra Dabholkar and communist leader Govind Pansare— Dabholkar and Pansare had been killed by extremist Right-wing forces.

Bhujbal, who is the national president of Akhil Bharatiya Mahatma Phule Samata Parishad, said that he does not attach any importance to the threat.

"...Jako rakhe saiyan, maar sake na koi (if God wants to save somebody, then nobody can kill him)... I have never been cowed down by threats, what I want to speak I will speak, I don't fear anyone," he told his supporters in Nashik, his home district.

The NCP leaders and activists in Nashik met top police officials and demanded a probe besides taking necessary security measures.
