Bihar govt staff in net over views

Last Updated 23 September 2011, 18:26 IST

The two officials, working in the department of Hindi publication in the council, have been suspended for using unconstitutional language while posting their personal views on Facebook.

Costly opinion

One of them — Arun — had expressed his opinion on the social networking site about the termination of membership of JD(U) legislator Prem Kumar Mani, and questioned the motive of council chairman Tarakant Jha.

He had also written that if anyone in Bihar dared to differ with Nitish Kumar, he would land in trouble.

Never imagined

“I never thought that sharing my views would prove so costly. Under the impression that everyone had a right to freedom of speech, I had written (with a question mark) that is the decision of the council chairman influenced by the JD (U)? I had also written that if anybody tries to differ with Nitish, a sword hangs over his head,” said Arun.

Another on fire

Usafir Baitha, another employee who is in the line of fire, for his views had expressed his frustration on Facebook over the functioning of the government department in this age of “sushashan” (good governance).

Upset over loan

Upset over his loan application (against his GPF) not being cleared as his office had not updated his GPF for the last seven years, he wrote out of frustration on the popular social networking site: “Darkness beneath the lamp… Bihar Legislative Council where I work, there rules are ripped apart…”

Both the council employees, who are award winning writers, have been served suspension letter without being issued any show cause notice.

The council chairman from Bihar, however, refused to comment more on the punishment meted out to the two employees and said as the head of the House, he was aware of the rules and regulations.
