BJP fields ex-MP's daughter from Kairana

In an apparent bid to cash in on the sympathy factor, BJP fielded former MP Hukum Singh's daughter Mriganka Singh from the Kairana Lok Sabha seat, where a by-poll was scheduled for May 28.

According to the BJP sources here on Tuesday, the party has nominated Avani Singh, wife of former MLA Lokendra Singh, from the Noorpur Assembly seat, which will also see a by-poll on the same day.

The by-polls were called for following the death of Hukum and Lokendra.

The Samajwadi Party (SP), which has struck a deal with the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD), has fielded Tabssum Hasan, who will be contesting on the RLD election symbol.

SP has nominated Naimul Hasan from the Noorpur Assembly seat.

Although the BSP has not declared its open support to the SP in the by-poll, sources in the party said it has directed its workers to make sure that the party's core voters supported the SP nominee.

The Congress has not revealed its strategy for the by-polls so far.

The votes in the two seats will be counted on May 31.
