Last Updated 20 August 2018, 19:02 IST

The BJP has plans to encash peoples’ respect for former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee for electoral gain in poll-bound Madhya Pradesh, the state he was born in and graduated from.

The party will hold Kalash yatras of the departed leader across the state — in the state capital, village panchayats and even booth level. Tributes will be paid to Vajpayee in three phases, which will last till August 30.

This was decided in the BJP’s election management committee meeting at Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s residence. Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar was also present in the meeting.

State BJP president Rakesh Singh will bring Vajpayee’s ashes to Bhopal. Later, ashes will be immersed in parts in all main rivers in the state.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has announced that all seven under-construction smart cities including Bhopal will be named after the former Prime Minister. Besides, the late leader’s alma mater in Gwalior, the government Gorkhi school, will be named after him.
