BJP-Sena violating election rules: Sanjay Nirupam

Citing the Election Commission’s Model Code of Conduct (MCC), Mumbai Congress president Sanjay Nirupam attacked the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance government claiming that the ruling party has defied the Code of Conduct as many hoardings continue to be mounted across the city of Mumbai even today.

Nirupam said all the hoardings carrying images of party leaders, achievements of the government or any political references were supposed to either be removed or covered up following the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct after the EC announced the schedule of the Lok Sabha Elections on Sunday.

"However, the BJP-Shiv Sena govt has been violating this code of conduct openly as many of their hoardings continue to be up at public places across Mumbai," he said on Thursday.

“The ruling party has to obey the guidelines laid down by the Election Commission. However, they are aware of the fact that their performance over the past 5 years wherein they’ve only overpromised and under-delivered. The violation of MCC by the BJP- Shiv Sena government is clearly a desperate attempt by the ruling party to woo the voters for one last time before the Lok Sabha elections."

Nirupam demanded that stringent actions be taken against the ruling party for violating the MCC and that the party must not be given any special treatment.
