BJP top leadership wants to kill Kejriwal: AAP

Last Updated 17 December 2018, 16:50 IST

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Wednesday upped its ante over the 'chilli powder' attack on Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, accusing the BJP of "attempting to kill" him and even suggesting its top leadership, including Home Minister Rajnath Singh, may have the knowledge about the conspiracy.

The allegations were made by Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia at a press conference here where he claimed that the accused Anil Kumar Sharma, who threw chilli powder at the Chief Minister outside his office in Secretariat on Tuesday, was a BJP supporter.

The BJP-led Centre and Kejriwal dispensation were at loggerheads since the AAP formed the government over the issue of control over crucial subjects related to the national capital.

Sisodia said Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal, who controls Delhi Police and responsible for law and order in the capital, did not even make a call to Kejriwal or issue a statement on the incident even after a day indicated that he also "knew about the BJP conspiracy".

"The Home Minister spoke to Kejriwal (on Tuesday) over the telephone. The Home Minister makes a mockery of this attack and asks the Chief Minister to file FIR. This is suspicious. The incident happened in front of policemen. There is CCTV footage. You still want a complaint. So you will ask for a formal complaint if a murder happens," Sisodia said.

"Is this the way of investigation? This insensitivity makes it clear that the BJP top leadership has planned the attack. They are conspiring to kill Kejriwal. First, they tried to stop him from working for the welfare of Delhiites but when it did not succeed, they are now trying to kill him...The Home Minister may also know about it," he said.

On four previous attacks on Kejriwal, Sisodia said police has not filed charge sheet yet.

Sharing a video of the questioning of Sharma at Secretariat soon after he was detained, Sisodia said Delhi Police's message to the “attackers of Kejriwal is that you attack him, we will treat you with tea. This is not Delhi Police but BJP Police.”

Congress and BJP on Monday had condemned the attack on Monday. However, later the BJP also sought to raise suspicion that it could be staged, saying this kind of attacks on Kejriwal takes place when elections are near and he is never harmed.
