Budget session of Parliament to begin on Jan 31

Breaking away from tradition, the Budget Session of Parliament will begin on January 31, a full three weeks ahead of the usual schedule.

This is being done to facilitate earlier allocation of funds to various ministries.

Another long-held tradition will be broken when Finance Minister Arun Jaitley will present a combined Budget, including the allocation for the railways on February 1, the Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs (CCPA) decided on Tuesday.

President Pranab Mukherjee will address the joint sitting of the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha on January 31.

The finance minister will present the economic survey to Parliament the same day.
The CCPA meeting, chaired by Home Minister Rajnath Singh, has sent the recommendations to the President, who is expected to summon the Budget Session soon.

The CCPA recommendation mentions only the first part of the Budget Session, which is expected to conclude on February 9.
