Campaigning for the fifth and the last phase of Bihar elections came to an end on Tuesday evening. Polling for the remaining 57 constituencies, out of total 243 seats, will take place on November 5.

Spread over nine districts, at least 24 constituencies are in Seemanchal area in Purnia, Katihar, Araria and Kishanganj, the four districts which has a sizeable Muslim population.

The grand alliance, comprising the JD (U), RJD and the Congress, has pulled out all the stops to do well in this zone which could shore up its strength in the Assembly.

On the other hand, polling in 33 constituencies in Mithilanchal area, comprising five districts of Madhubani, Darbhanga, Saharsa, Supaul and Madhepura, will be keenly watched as these are strongholds of the BJP.

Former chief minister Jagannath Mishra’s son Nitish Mishra is the BJP candidate from Jhanjharpur, while BJP spokesperson Vinod Narayan Jha is the party nominee from Benipatti in Madhubani.

Besides, all eyes will be on Bihar unit president of AIMIM, Akhtarul Imam, who is in the fray from Kochadhaman in Kishanganj district, which has 70 per cent Muslim population.

As campaigning came to an end, both the camps claimed to emerge victorious with two-thirds majority.
