JOIN USSpeaking to Deccan Herald here on Monday, Moily, who accompanied Sonia Gandhi and P Chidambaram for an aerial survey of the flood-affected areas, said about Rs 70 cr was available with Karnataka.
He said Chidambaram told Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa that after this amount was spent, the Centre would provide more funds. “Chidambaram told the CM that all help from the Centre will be coming and that there will be no limit... Besides, he asked the CM to write separately to the Prime Minister.”
An official release from the Centre said it was providing all possible assistance to the two states where incessant rain had caused severe floods in some areas. “The situation is being monitored round- the-clock by the control room of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel are engaged in large scale rescue and evacuation operations and distribution of food, drinking water and other relief items to the affected people. The Army, Navy and Air Force are also assisting in relief and rescue operations,” the release added.
Keeping in view the severity of the situation caused by heavy rains/floods, the MHA has rushed NDRF personnel along with boats to the affected areas of Bhatinda, Noida, Pune, Arakkonam(Tamil Nadu) and Mundali (Orissa).
The release said in Karnataka, 249 trained personnel of NDRF along with 73 inflatable motorised boats, 352 lifebuoys and 60 life jackets had been deployed in the districts of Bagalkote, Raichur, Gadag and Bijapur for rescue and relief operations.
