Centre withdraws security cover to Hardik Patel

Patel quota stir leader Hardik Patel has expressed apprehension of an attack on him or being jailed after the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) withdrew the "Y" category security cover given to him.

"Let's see whether this is a plan to kill me or send me to jail. I will continue to do my work and shall bear the fruits of my work, good or bad," Hardik tweeted.

The Patel quota stir leader was provided "Y" category security cover by the Centre during the run-up to 2017 elections in Gujarat when he had addressed over 100 public meetings across the state.

He was accorded security as central Intelligence agencies then were of the perception that there could be an attack on Hardik.

He was provided with an escort of eight security personnel after he initially declined security.

He had expressed apprehension then the step was being taken to snoop on his movements.

He, however, agreed to have security after persuasion by senior administrative and police personnel in the state.

The Central government has now sought inputs from the Gujarat Police whether Hardik, who is currently out on bail in several cases, requires any local-level security instead.
