Cong demands CBI probe into child-trade case

Last Updated 23 September 2018, 16:49 IST

Former Mayor of Raipur Kiranmayee Nayak and Congress medical cell president Dr Rakesh Gupta on Sunday sought a CBI investigation into the case pertaining to illegal adoption and sale of children and demanded a probe into Dr Shanu Masih's role in it.

They also demanded the probe to look into the relationship that the accused, Shanu, had with the BJP and RSS leaders.

Addressing the media at Congress headquarters, Rajiv Bhawan, Kiranmayee and Gupta said there is confirmed information that Shanu worked at a private hospital, situated near the Netaji Subash Stadium in Raipur, run by a doctor, who is also a RSS leader, during evening hours.

"Dr Shanu Masih assists him (the hospital's owner) in the work and also manages the financial dealings. Then how come the accused Dr Shanu was using the registration number of the owner of the hospital. Does he not have any knowledge of it. If she was misusing the registration number then why the Doctor-cum-owner of the hospital did did not register an FIR for the misuse of the registration number. Why only a complaint was registered. Why was the complaint not lodged with the Medical Council of India. The doctor is not only a professional but he is the RSS' state co-president," they said.

The congress leaders said that the state government is trying to protect the doctor and added that Shanu can be seen with BJP leaders in many photographs on social media and all these relationships should be probed.

They demanded that a year's CCTV footage of Visharad Hospital should be seized and the relationship Dr Shanu had with the hospital's owner should be probed.

"All call details and the names emerging in the case should be taken out. Information regarding the people having sold and those having adopted the children should be made public. The legal marriage status of those people to whom the children were given should be probed" they said.

Earlier, Dr Shanu Masih and others were caught by police while selling an infant after assisting a minor girl to deliver the baby.

The police is now trying to trace the people who have bought the children and those operating the illegal adoption business. Police is suspicious that Dr Shanu Masih even holds a fake degree.
