Congress leaders plan to corner the Modi government on the issue of agrarian distress and the “betrayal of the promise” of implementing the Swaminathan formula while fixing the minimum support price.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi had promised 50% profit over the cost of production for farmers. Four years have passed and the farmers are still waiting for the promise to be fulfilled,” Congress leader Rajeev Satav said.

Former union minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said Modi had promised to implement the C2 formula for fixing MSP, but in reality the government used a different methodology to fix the support price for farmers.

“Farmers will bring down this deaf and dumb government,” Scindia told reporters on the sidelines of the protests.
