Congress will win its RS seat in Gujarat: Gehlot

Last Updated 02 August 2017, 12:49 IST
All India Congress Committee general secretary and in charge of party affairs Ashok Gehlot said that the Congress would win its Rajya Sabha seat on which Ahmed Patel is contesting the poll from Gujarat.

Gehlot also condemned the Income Tax Department’s raid at Karnataka Energy Minister overseeing the stay of 44 Congress MLAs at a resort. While speaking at a press conference in Jaipur, he said, "It's a deliberate raid by the I-T on the direction of the Central government, and the Congress is keeping its flock of 44 MLAs who feared threats and horse-trading from the BJP".

Replying a question related to Shankar Singh Vaghela who quit the party, Gehlot claimed that even Vaghela declared to vote in favour of Ahmed Patel in the RS polls slated for August 8. Strongly objecting to the introduction of NOTA in Rajya Sabha polls, Gehlot said, “I condemn the way PM Narendra Modi is taking party towards disaster. The country is worried and seriously afraid of their unexpected working style.”

He also criticised PM Modi for not visiting the flood-affected districts of Rajasthan and “not announcing” the relief package for farmers. "Farmers’ crop loan should be waived as a dozen of them committed suicides and others are trapped in flood fury.”
