CPI-M mulling fixed tenure for its leaders: Yechury

Last Updated 26 October 2009, 11:18 IST

"The party is discussing the proposal for a fixed tenure for office bearers," Yechury told reporters here on the sidelines of a CPI-M convention to protest price rise of essential commodities.
"It is being planned to fix a maximum of three terms for any leader with a five-year tenure", he said.
Yechury termed the naxal violence as a "serious" law and order problem and said the state and Central governments should not compromise with Maoists.
He said Centre and West Bengal governments should initiate urgent measures to end violence let loose by Maoists, and his party would support any strong action against them.

Yechury said CPI (M) would expose the ideological bankruptcy of Maoist groups and take up the challenge posed by naxalites politically and ideologically.
Yechury reiterated his party's demand for sacking of Union Telecom Minister A Raja for his alleged involvement in the spectrum allotment scam.
