JOIN USThe Communist Party of India (CPI) Sunday said it would vote in favour of the no-confidence motion against the Congress-led UPA government, provided the Trinamool Congress, which mooted the motion, manages the requisite numbers for its admittance.
"If the Trinamool Congress manages to ensure the support of 50 MPs required to ensure that the motion is admitted, then we won't be able to save this government," CPI leader Gurudas Dasgupta told mediapersons here.
Dasgupta said there was "nothing wrong" in Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee's decision to bring the no-confidence motion against the United Progressive Alliance government, which he accused committed "injustices and crimes against the people". "If the motion is admitted, neither we will walk out of parliament nor we will abstain from voting.
The centre is responsible for many injustices and crimes against the people. It deserves severe punishment, which shall either be handed to it by the people a year-and-a-half from now in the general elections, or during the no-confidence motion in parliament," he said.
Banerjee Saturday announced that her party would move the no-confidence motion on the first day of the winter session of parliament Nov 22, and appealed all parties, including the Left parties, to support the move. However, the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M), an important constituent of the Left Front of which CPI is also a part, has ridiculed Banerjee's move.
"How many MPs do they have. Let them get the required number first to bring a no-confidence motion against the UPA government," CPI-M politburo member Biman Bose said Saturday.
