A local CPI(M) leader of Dipa village in West Midnapore district was today beaten to death by some unidentified persons, police said.
Superintendent of Police Praveen Kumar Tripathy said Bimal Senapati, the local branch secretary of Dipa village was found lying in a serious condition near the village.
He was declared brought dead by doctors at hospital, the SP said the body has been sent for postmortem.
The SP said Tripathy had gone out to attend nature's call in the morning but after that he was missing.
After search he was found lying in a serious condition, the SP added.
