CPM MLA joins TMC in West Bengal

In a jolt to the CPM ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, one of its MLAs from Murshidabad district has joined the Trinamool Congress.

MLA Abdur Rezzak Mondal from the Jalangi Assembly seat in Murshidabad joined the TMC in presence of Transport Minister Suvendu Adhikari at a public rally in the district on Thursday.

“I have been CPM MLA for eight years but have not been able to usher in any development in my constituency. I joined the TMC to be part of the development drive initiated by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee,” said Mondal.

However, he is yet to resign from his MLA post.

During the rally, Adhikari said that Opposition parties have totally failed in bringing in any kind of development in Murshidabad. Taking a dig at former state Congress president Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury who is also a Congress MP from the district, Adhikari alleged that Chowdhury has not been able to give an appropriate answer as to how he has utilised his MP fund.

“The only thing Adhir Chowdhury does is to make baseless allegation against our chief minister and TMC. Chowdhury, CPI(M) and BJP are colluding against TMC. But they will fail miserably,” said Adhikari.
