Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, a meeting of the Congress Working Committee will take place on February 26 in Ahmedabad in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's home state of Gujarat.

"It has been decided to convene a meeting of the Congress Working Committee on 26th of February 2019 at Ahmedabad, Gujarat to discuss the current political scenario and progress made for the upcoming General Elections," AICC general secretary K C Venugopal said in a statement here.

This would be AICC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi's first CWC meeting after her formal entry into active politics.

Congress is seeking to send a message to Modi that it would not shy away from taking the Prime Minister on his home turf. A senior Congress leader pointed out to the "tremendous response" Rahul's rally in Gujarat's Valsad had received on Thursday.

Rahul had stepped up an attack on Modi accusing him of being corrupt and helping his corporate friends mint money while ignoring farmers and the farmers.

The Congress attacks on the contentious Rafale fighter aircraft deal has been acerbic with Rahul accusing the Prime Minister of being a "middleman" for industrialist Anil Ambani, whose company got the offset contract accruing from the deal.

The CWC meeting is expected to put its stamp of approval on the Congress Manifesto for the Lok Sabha elections, that will include Rahul's promise of a minimum income guarantee for the poor.

Congress is planning to hold another meeting of the CWC after the announcement of the Lok Sabha elections. The meeting could be held either in Lucknow or Patna.

The last CWC meeting was held in Maharashtra’s Wardha district to mark the beginning of Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th birth anniversary celebrations.
